Roots is a reflection of my Honduran heritage and a celebration of where part of my story begins. The blue and white throughout the piece represent the colors of the Honduran flag, while also reflecting the sky and waters surrounding the country. Within the painting, the geographic shape of Honduras emerges with its national flag painted inside, grounding the work in the land itself. Flying above the country is Honduras’ national bird, the scarlet macaw, representing pride, freedom, beauty, and a connection to the natural spirit of the land. This piece is about remembering where you come from and carrying those roots with you. It honors heritage, identity, and the pieces of our ancestry that continue to live through us.
